Meal Planning: Busy Moms I Have Your Answer!

When it comes to getting meals on the table, are you tired of:

  • scrambling to make something decent out of what’s in your fridge
  • resorting to compromise or convenience foods because you’re short on time
  • battling weight gain and feeling discouraged that the family isn’t eating better
  • wasting money on restaurants, food that goes bad, and too many last-minute grocery runs
  • and feeling like cooking is a burden instead of a joy?

I totally get it, because I’ve struggled with those very same things.

But 2018 can be the year you take control of what your family is eating once and for all.

You’ll have a plan that makes it easier to get homemade food on the table, eat in a way that supports your weight-loss goals, make dinner time less stressful (even on those busy days and weeks) and save money by eating at home more (and wasting less).

Here’s the solution you’ve been waiting for…

How to Stay Healthy this Holiday Season

“Ho ho ho ho, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!” Now that we are in the throes of the holiday season, many of us are preparing for big celebrations and parties. Food, snacks, wine, beverages… there is no better time of the year to fill yourself to your heart’s desire!

However, if you are a health-conscious type of mom, then this article will show some tips for staying healthy this holiday season (while everyone else around you gains 5 pounds!).

Below are 5 tips for keeping yourself as a busy mom healthy this holiday season:

1. Eat Snacks Moderately – Let’s face it, snacks are abundant during the holidays seasons (as if they aren’t already throughout the year). If you take a seat within an arm’s reach of the snack table, you’re going to have a tough time keeping yourself from unconsciously grabbing handfuls of party mix, candies, and the like and picking at them all day. By sitting farther away, getting to the snacks involves a conscious effort into getting up and walking over.

2. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise! – There is no better thing to do during this festive season than to exercise! If the weather permits it, go out and take a quick walk around the house or go play in the snow with your kids. If your celebration is taking place in a colder climate, you’ll be more inspired to quicken your pace and burn a few extra calories in the process. And if the weather is bad, do 10-20 squats, play with your kids, or other brief exercise each time you go to the restroom. You only want to do just enough to elevate your heart rate, but not break out into a sweat. Chances are, no one will know what you’re doing, and you won’t have to feel self-conscious about trying to maintain your figure.

3. Next, Eat More Healthy Foods – Take an extra scoop of vegetables, and by the time you finish, you won’t have room for the other high calories foods. Also, avoid those fatty and fried foods (they taste good, but you know they aren’t healthy!)

4. Drink A Lot Of Water Throughout The Day – Water helps your body stay fit. Drink a fair amount of water or other unsweetened beverage before each meal, as well as during and between them. As a result, the liquid in your stomach will help trick your mind into not feeling as hungry.

5. Finally, Eat In Smaller Portions – Instead of eating platefuls of food, try eating smaller portions throughout the day. No doubt, everything at the table looks good. An easy way to combat this urge is to simply take a smaller portion than you normally would. Split a piece of pie with your spouse or child.

Keeping healthy during this holiday season is simply making sure you follow healthy habits just like anytime of the year. However, don’t fret it if you end up gaining a few pounds during the holidays. After all, the holiday season is one time where you can enjoy yourself!

#DoingAllTheThings? Not This Christmas!

So are you ones of those moms? #DoingAllTheThings? I feel you! I’ve been there before. I’ve tried to stuff every imaginable activity into the Christmas season and before New Years I am completely burnt out! Try something different this year!

#doingallthethings, self care, christmas time, family time, enjoy yourself, busy moms

#DoingAllTheThings

I want to give you 3 tips that will help you enjoy Christmas without the hustle and bustle. Promise you and your family that you will take time to breathe and truly enjoy this season!

  1. Pick 3 must do activities!

    1. I promise you that it will be okay if you don’t attend every Christmas parade, Christmas tree lighting and Christmas play! In an effort to make sure that families have a multitude of choices during the Christmas season, we now feel like we have to participate in all the activities! Please do not feel guilty when you don’t. It creates way too much pressure and busyness. Talk with your family and see what’s most important. It will be much calmer if you focus on only 3 activities. For my family this year we went to cut down a Christmas tree and we always go see some Christmas lights around town. I’m not sure what our third activity will be.
  2. Plan in Advance.

    1. Make sure that you know in advance all of your commitments. Pencil in when the kids are off school and when their Christmas concerts are. Decide before Thanksgiving whose house you are going to for Christmas. If your family loves the city’s Christmas tree lighting, find out when it is and clear your schedule.
    2. Set up your baking/cooking ahead of time as well. If you like to bake cookies, figure out what type and make a grocery list. Plan your holiday meal and add that to the grocery list as well. Buy ahead what you can to avoid the holiday rush.
  3. Finally, enjoy the small things.

    1. Drink some eggnog and listen to Christmas music while decorating your tree. Sit in the dark with your spouse with only the Christmas tree lights on. Have a snowball fight with your kids. Bake Christmas cookies. Whatever pleases you, just make sure it’s done at home and slowly.
